Touch of Love Outreach organized a highly impactful budgeting workshop as part of our Financial Capability Programme, in collaboration with CEMVO Scotland. This event, generously funded by The Robertson Trust, was designed to equip young people from Minority Ethnic communities with essential skills to manage their finances effectively and take meaningful steps towards financial independence.
We are thrilled to report that 73 enthusiastic young individuals attended the workshop, eager to learn and take control of their financial futures. The turnout exceeded our expectations, highlighting the strong demand for financial literacy within our community, particularly among New Scots and minority ethnic youth.
During the session, participants delved into critical aspects of personal finance, including how to create a budget plan, distinguish between needs and wants, and understand the impact of their financial behaviors. The workshop was designed to be interactive and engaging, providing plenty of opportunities for participants to ask questions and share their experiences.
Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many of the young participants found the workshop eye-opening, particularly in terms of understanding the importance of budgeting and financial planning. They appreciated the practical tools and tips provided, which they could immediately apply to their daily lives.
One of the most notable outcomes of the workshop was the participants' newfound confidence in managing their money. Many expressed that they now feel better equipped to set financial goals and make informed decisions about their spending. This empowerment aligns with CEMVO Scotland’s mission to improve the financial well-being of ethnic minority New Scots and youths across Scotland by providing the knowledge and resources needed to build financial resilience. CEMVO’s broader objectives are centered around building the capacity and sustainability of Scotland’s ethnic minority communities, fostering leadership, and enabling active participation in civic life (Cemvo Scotland).
This workshop is part of our broader commitment to fostering financial literacy among the youth, particularly within Minority Ethnic young persons. By empowering these young individuals with the skills they need to manage their finances effectively, we are helping to break the cycle of financial insecurity and promote long-term well-being
As a follow-up to the workshop, Touch of Love Outreach will continue to offer additional support and resources, including one-on-one sessions for those who need more personalized guidance. We believe that financial education is a lifelong journey, and we are dedicated to walking this path alongside the young people in our community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to CEMVO Scotland for their invaluable partnership and to The Robertson Trust for their generous funding. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of Aberdeen’s youth, one workshop at a time.
Stay tuned for more events and initiatives as we continue our mission to empower the next generation with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive.
