We’re bursting with pride as we celebrate a truly special moment for Touch of Love.
On 3rd July, 2025 , our incredible founder, Jane Akadiri, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Robert Gordon University - a powerful recognition of her tireless dedication to young people, families in hardship, and those navigating trauma or isolation.
This honour couldn’t be more deserved.
It all started with a simple yet profound moment. During the thick of the COVID-19 lockdown, someone approached Jane asking for just bread and milk. That quiet cry for help sparked something greater. It led to the birth of our foodbank, which today runs two collection points in Torry, Aberdeen, feeding families with dignity.
But Jane didn’t stop there.
She wanted to understand the bigger picture, so she asked families a simple question: “If you had a little extra money, what would you spend it on?” The answer was heart-breaking. Children were often last on the list.
That response led Jane to act again - this time, by founding the Youth Club for New Scots and Young Scots, creating a space where young people can be seen, celebrated, and safe. A space where belonging and joy are woven into every activity.
Jane’s ability to see people - not just their needs, but their worth - is what Touch of Love is built on. Her vision has shaped every corner of our work, and her spirit continues to drive everything we do.
This Honorary Doctorate adds to a growing list of honours. Last year, Jane was awarded Certificate of Commendation at The Black Scottish Awards - celebrating her outstanding contributions to the Aberdeen Black Community, and in June 2025, she won Inspirational Leader of the Year at the National Youth Work Awards.
And now, she is officially:
