How our Food Bank Works

At Touch of Love Food Bank, we're committed to providing emergency food assistance to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Our process ensures that help reaches those who need it most, through a dignified and respectful approach. Here's how our food bank system operates:

Food Is Donated

Our journey begins with generosity. Food banks rely on donations of non-perishable and unexpired food items from schools, churches, businesses, individuals, and more. Festive seasons, such as harvest time and Christmas, often bring in significant contributions, while supermarkets serve as convenient collection points year-round. These acts of kindness are the foundation of our ability to help others.

Professionals Identify People in Need

A network of care professionals, including doctors, teachers, health visitors, and social workers, play a crucial role in identifying those facing severe food insecurity. They refer individuals to our food bank, enabling them to receive the emergency assistance they need. Additionally, individuals can self-refer by contacting us directly for support.

Food Is Sorted and Prepared

Once donations arrive, our dedicated volunteers spring into action. They meticulously sort and inspect food items to ensure everything is safe and within its use-by dates. These items are then organized into parcels, ready to provide a balanced and nutritious three-day supply of food to those in need.

Individuals Redeem Their Referrals

People in need present their referral notes at the food bank, which they can exchange for their emergency food parcels. Our volunteers warmly welcome each person, offering not just food but also a listening ear and support. This moment is about more than just nutrition; it's an opportunity to connect and guide individuals towards additional support services to help resolve their underlying crises.

A Community Effort

This entire process is supported by the community, for the community. From the initial donation to the moment a food parcel is handed over, every step is filled with compassion, dignity, and respect. Our food bank is more than a place to receive food; it's a beacon of hope and support for those facing difficult times.
